Woman of Influence

Today mothers everywhere are being recognized and appreciated. Rightly so. I awoke with thoughts of my own mother. My birth mother placed me up for adoption, and God graciously placed me in the hands of a virtuous woman whose strength and perseverance I admired not only in her life, but in her death. 

My mother was extremely hard working. Her parents pulled her out of school in the seventh grade to help on the farm. That didn't phase her. She continued to educate herself by reading encyclopedias, becoming one of the most intelligent women I've ever known. And she made my sister and I learn the same way. She was an amazing seamstress, and made all of our clothes. Our home was never dirty - she cleaned and taught us responsibility, pride of homemaking, how to cook and clean. She gave to the poor even though we had so little ourselves. She was kind to everyone - family, friends and strangers alike.

She was always well kept, dignified and classy. Even when fearful, she held her head up and trusted God to see us through. It was He she turned to in her distress when confused or frightened. I sat beside her at church every week as she worshiped Him with all of her heart. 

When I was pregnant with my son, she lost her brave battle with cancer. 

I am forever grateful to Him for placing me into the arms of such a wonderful woman who was beautiful from the inside out. 

Lord, hasten the day when l see her bright smile again.

 "Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubiesl The heard of her husband safely trusts her; so he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands. Sh also rises while it is yet night, and provides food for her household, and a portion for her maidservants. She considers a field and buys it; from her profits she plans a vineyard. she extends her hand to the poor, yes, she reached out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household is clothed with scarlet. Strength and honor are her clothing, she shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household, and does not each the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praises her. Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all. Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord shall be praised. Give her the of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates."  Proverbs 31:10-31

    All that your mom taught you, in word, deed and action, has shown in you so brightly.

    The Lord desires us to yeild fruit in our lives. Through you, your mom achieved that and so much more. Now, it is growing into the next generation as your daughter begins to show what an amazing young lady she is.

Visiting my friend's home is always a refreshing treat. Especially when it comes to her backyard. The best description is an oasis of gorgeous flowers enjoying their specially selected locations under the mature trees throughout the entire perimeter. She and her husband have put in countless hours of back-breaking cultivation, and it shows. They have been rewarded with tranquility encountered by simply stepping out their back door. The furthest right hand corner of the property displays an amazing vegetable garden with more varieties of lettuce imaginable. Never Forget

Have you ever been so grateful for someone that you can't find enough words in our language to express it? I've often thought with tears about the things I would say to my mother now. Things I never made the effort to say. The more I reminisce, the more I'm reminded of her goodness - and the more I regret not telling her so. Nehemiah had been Cupbearer to the Persian King Artaxerxes, and now had been Governor of Judah for twelve years. Overwhelmed with gratitude to God for bringing His people back from captivity, he poured his heart out in prayer.  God allowed them to rebuild their beloved city of Jerusalem, which had been utterly destroyed by the Babylonians seventy years prior. In an amazing 52 days, they had completely rebuilt the city wall. Nehemiah gathered all of the people and for three hours they read about the sins of their fathers and for three more hours, confessed that they had partaken of similar deeds "crying with a loud voice to the Lord their God"

Without a Doubt

Most of us are probably familiar with the infamous story of God's miraculous intervention of freeing Israel from the tyranny of Egypt. Moses appeared before the Pharaoh of Egypt on multiple occasions, demanding each time that he let the Jewish slaves go. We know about Pharaoh's stubborn refusals followed by God's judgements. Fast forward to the mass exodus through the Red Sea. God's promise wasn't just to free the slaves from their bondage, but to lead them into the "Land of Milk and Honey", an area that God had intended to give to them where they could dwell forever under His protection and provision. A select few (twelve, to be exact - one representative from each tribe) went in to scout out the land and bring back a report.
