Face It

Ever had that eerie feeling of being watched? Every species has an innate fear of being hunted or stalked. Why do you suppose that is? Matthew 6:22 says that the eyes are the "lamp of the body". Because of a heightened awareness I won’t go into, I became suddenly mindful of eye shapes randomly scattered in the hickory wood flooring throughout my home. As we know, this pattern is also seen on various animals and insects for the purpose of frightening away predators.

The eye, which focuses and dilates as needed has been dissected and used to invent such things as cameras, telescopes, and microscopes. Along the same lines could be a discussion on DNA and the intricate and unique detail of each cell. To believe such a thing came into being from some kind of primordial soup is to be deceived by a system that works very hard to deny an intelligent Creator - a God to Whom we are accountable.

The Bible speaks repeatedly of the wisdom of those who have “eyes to see” (Isaiah 6:10, Jeremiah 5:21, Ezekiel 12:2, Matthew 13:16, Mark 8:18). In a spiritual sense, this refers to wisdom from God, which enables us to see His fingerprints on the things He has made, removing the excuse that we were unaware of His existence (Romans 1:20).

Being a fan of several famous artists, I can recognize their work anywhere. Most people, for example, know a Rembrandt, Picasso, or Norman Rockwell at a glance. Although there are “fakes”, once you become a student of their style, you won’t be duped as some who aren’t as familiar. The same is true regarding the work of God.

Briefly touching on the subject of evolution, God has created all living beings with the amazing ability to adapt to its environment over time, within its own specie. This is referred to as "microevolution" but I prefer the term adaptation. For instance, scientists measured the eye sockets and brain capacity of 55 human skulls representing 12 different populations. The further north of the equator, the bigger their eyes and visual brain regions were. Both are adaptation to light. Their brains also need to be bigger to deal with the extra visual input. Eye socket volume increased from around 22 milliliters close to the equator to around 26 milliliters at latitudes of 45 to 60 degrees. Studies also show that birds with bigger eyes are the first to sing at dawn.

Professor Robin Dunbar, director of the Institute of Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology at Oxford University states "Humans have only lived at high latitudes in Europe and Asia for a few tens of thousands of years, yet they seem to have adapted their visual systems surprisingly rapidly to cloudy skies, dull weather, and long winters we experience at these latitudes".

All the research I've been doing on this subject has resulted in such examples of adaptation, including changes in iris color from Southern to Northern regions. What we don't see are examples of evolution from specie to specie. Dogs becoming cats, whales becoming dolphins, chickens becoming geese, monkeys becoming human. You get the picture. "God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind." Genesis 1:21. There's been plenty of time since creation to prove macro evolution if it were true. The reason there is a "missing link" is because it never existed! It will always be missing! Rather, there is a common Designer. And when we view the world through the lens of His Holy Word, we can't help but to see His undeniable handiwork.
